Scene uit de HobbitThe Oakenshield's Heritage

"Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To seek our pale enchanted gold.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells,
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.

For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught,
To hide in gems on hilt of sword. "

The name originates from a book of the master of fantasy today, J.R.R. Tolkien. The book was named "The Hobbit". Which was the prequel for the "Lords of the Rings" Trilogy. It was first read to me by my father when I was a child. Listening to the tales made me drift away in the world created by Tolkien. This awakened the Dreamer within me.

Scene uit de HobbitThe Hobbit tells a story based on the everlasting war between Evil and Good. In the Hobbit a group of Dwarfs a Hobbit and with a Magician to aid & guide them are on a quest. They have to reclaim the lost throne of the Dwarfs taken from them Era's long ago. This Throne is situated in the Iron Hills. To claim what is rightfully theirs our Heroes have to clear the land of the tyranny of Smaug. The Dragon who made the Iron Hills it's layer. Many opponents like Orcs, Trolls and Giant Spiders pass their way on the road to it's layer. Eventually they succeed in their quest.

The most Heroic character was named Thorin Oakenshield II, the leader of this small pack of Dwarfs. He was tragically killed in the end, before he even could reclaim his throne.

The Dwarfs are a rough, rugged, muscled, hardened, and strong race, just like the Maine Coon. Thinking of my Childhood and of the ancestry of the Maine Coon it was easy for me to choose a name. The name of our Cattery couldn't be anything else than Oakenshield, the heroic figure from the Hobbit. Thus keeping both the memory from Thorin Oakenshield and my childhood alive.
